Day 2 highlights-Part 1 Port Orleans Riverside

Continuing on with my Disney pics from my Sept/Oct trip, day 2 saw the beginning of the rain that pretty much dominated the rest of our trip:

There was a bit of a respite at the "golden gates":

but by the time we got to Port Orleans Riverside, it had started up again:

Our room wasn't ready yet (something that rarely ever happens to us at Disney), but it gave a good opportunity for us to check out the resort, especially since we were only spending one night there and it's one of the few I'd never seen before. It's definitely quite different from its sister resort, Port Orleans French Quarter, which I have stayed in. I've always avoided Riverside because, well, I am Southern and the prospect of staying in a Southern-themed resort has never appealed to me. It was pretty, but not French Quarter pretty.

Although the store was cool:

with some really neat animated displays:

it took me all of three minutes to pick out some future purchases, a Stitch outfit for my Duffy Bear was a good start:

I did find some "remnants" of home outside:

And I did a lot of wandering out back:

of course I managed to find the purple flowers:

and I got as close to the pool as I wanted to:

A lot of the resort would definitely NOT be a place I'd want to have to walk through at night:

I managed a wander around the food court, but we didn't eat there because I had other plans:
2014-0378
but it was a very big food court and not nearly as creepy as the giant masks looming over you at the French Quarter:

As per moderate usual, the bus stop was in a pretty central location, at the front of the resort:
2014-0436
which was good because it was off to the Marketplace for lunch
2014-0441
at my absolute favorite counter service restaurant on property, Earl of Sandwich and a line that curved around so many times I almost lost count:

Being in line was definitely a better option that being outside though:

but the long wait was worth it and I was even lucky enough to get a red velvet cupcake, which are usually the first to go:

At least the extra time in line gave them time to get our room ready. I was hoping booking the Alligator Bayou section would make up for the Southern-ness of the resort, but I didn't know that Alligator Bayou didn't have elevators, a HUGE problem for Kate.

Once we got in the room though, it was pretty nice with a Princess and the Frog theme:

and a lot of neat Southern touches:

the fold-out bed had a nice surprise in the inside:

I even managed to find a hidden Mickey:

We rested for a while before heading off to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, but let's save that for another post since this one is so pic heavy.
