Disney Movies - Day 12

I only watched one movie last night...I had Hulu stuff to clear off, so I picked the movie that I originally started with before Zach died, Pete's Dragon. Not a lot of people even know about this movie (although I'm not sure how that happened, I've seen this movie so many times that it's a huge part of my life and I'm not sure how the rest of the world could have missed it). But any Disney fan, even the younger ones, who may not have seen Pete's Dragon, know about it. Elliott has been a fixture in the Main Street Electrical Parade forever:
2010-0835

and almost any Disney compilation album has "Candle On The Water" on it:

When I was a kid, I wanted Helen Reddy to be my mom (I kind of still do).

It's one of those movies that I never get sick of and rarely criticize for the sub-par animation because the story, music and overall vibe of the movie are so strong, I don't notice the animation flubs, in fact, I don't even notice the animation per-se because I'm so involved in the movie (although I will admit the lack of continuity with his colors is a bit of a sore spot, but only on the rare occasion I do notice it).

I absolutely ADORE Elliott and he is right up there with my all-time favorite Disney characters and the rest of the cast is just amazing, most of which are legends in their own right like of course Helen, but also Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, Jim Dale, Jim Backus, and the list goes on and on. Whereas Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks were mixed medium films of a different generation, Pete's Dragon was MY generation...that's probably why I relate so much to it.

The most terrifying thing to me is the fact that they are remaking this classic. There is absolutely no way they can even come close to the level of respect the original holds for me and, although I probably will go see the remake, I've already decided to hate it. Why must they insist on remaking things? Leave well enough alone and come up with original ideas for once.

MOVIE TOTALS:
Live-Action - 14
Full-Length Animation - 19
Mixed Medium - 3
Animated Shorts - 60
Live-Action Shorts - 4

Yikes, I hadn't heard they were re-making Pete's Dragon. I always liked the movie, but the Peter, Paul and Mary song always makes me cry.

I didn't know they were redoing it but I don't like it either. I'm not a big fan of this movie as the original Doctor Dolittle was more my choice but it's entertaining.

I liked hearing your thoughts on Pete's Dragon, as I have never seen it. I need to get around to it one of these days. I always get nervous when they remake something too, although they seem to be doing that a lot lately. Especially the animation into live action lately!

I watched this so many times when I was younger but I haven't seen it for years! It's one of my favourites, but I do love Bedknobs and Broomsticks too!
