Last night it was time for me to wrap up the Marvel series with the final two, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Winter Solider was first. Since Cap is my favorite Avenger, of course I'm going to love this movie. But it has a darkness to it that the others don't have and I kind of rather like that. It partly feels like a mini Avenger's movie instead of focusing all on Cap and, as a watcher of The Agents of Shield on TV, it also set up season 2. It's also setting the tone for all the upcoming Marvel movies and you feel it the entire time of watching it...almost like something horrible is on the horizon at every turn. I'm glad they didn't try to hook Steve and Natasha together because it would have never worked. They play off each other so well and their chemistry is strong, but definitely rooted in the "friend zone". Ultron led her down the right romantic path (which I won't give away), so all's well that ends well!
I'm really excited to see if the third Captain America, Civil War, will see Bucky get a bit of his humanity and memories back. As many movies as I've seen Sebastian Stan play villains in, I like him much better as a good guy!
Last (and kind of least in my opinion) is Guardians. About the only thing this movie accomplishes for me is setting us up with a bit more history about Thanos. As much of a Doctor Who fan as I am, Sci-Fi in general just doesn't do it for me. Although, I have to admit, Chris Pratt is pretty darn cute and hard not to like!
About the only thing really bad about either of these movies is that neither one contains a One Shot...not sure why.
Live Action - 14
Full-Length Animation - 19
Mixed Medium - 2
Animated Shorts - 60
Live-Action Shorts - 4
As an aside, I made a comment on another blog (Hi Tiffany from Tiffsttiches a Blog!) about one of her 30-day challenge posts concerning movies and it got me to cravin' a non-Disney view, so I ended the night watching something different. I think I mentioned that both Tiffany and my friend Kate at The Suddenly Kate Show are both doing 30-day blog challenges, but theirs are centered on top 10 lists...you should check them both out! Anyhoo...Tiffany's specific post about her 10 favorite movies (see it HERE) reminded me of a lot of my favorite movies of all-time, especially since she mentioned The Pirates Of Penzance. Now, I am of a "certain age", having grown up in the 70's and 80's so, even to this day, most of my favorite all-time movies (and all of the top five) are from that generation. As much as I also love Penzance, there was a knock-off movie with Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins that is probably my #2 movie of all time called The Pirate Movie. Granted, I don't think there has ever been a cheesier movie, but I still love it to this day and it has quite a cult following. Several YouTube users have posted the entire movie, so for anyone who needs a bit of cheese in their day, here you go!
